Wood Jewel knives are designed by Kauko Raatiniemi in Kolari in the provice of Lapland. Kolari is a small town in Finland running alongside the Torne River to the north with the Swedish border to the west. The area around Kolari features the country's largest bog with a thousand year old forest. The designs of Kauko's work are heavily influenced by Sami traditional style.
Wood Jewel also offers other Sami influenced products like the kuksa, the traditional drinking cup carved out of wood.
